About me
Patrick Sullivan is a Professor of Mathematics at Missouri State University where he teaches content and methods for prospective elementary through secondary mathematics teachers. He has NCTM publications in the areas of elementary mathematics, sharing mathematical authority, integration of technology to support small group learning in online environments, and the learning and teaching of statistics. His book, See It, Say It, Symbolize It, published by Solution Tree, seeks to transform how elementary mathematics is conceptualized. He is the past-president of the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics and founder/director of the Young Mathematics Teacher Academy, a program to mentor high school students who have shown an interest in becoming a mathematics teacher. He is a former school leader and 9-12 mathematics department head. He has received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science in Mathematics Teaching (Kansas, 1999) and was recognized as the Missouri Teacher Educator of the Year in 2016. On a personal level he and his amazing wife Dawn have three daughters Emma, Lily, and Gwen who is a senior at Ozark High School. In his free time, he loves to ride his bicycle, read and listen to anything by Malcolm Gladwell and root for the Chiefs and Royals.
